In the next months, EU health chief warns about the possibility of a second wave of infections.
Covid-19 cases in the world have been hit more than 5 million, experts are starting to worry and think about a possible second wave of infections. The data came from the Johns Hopkins University Tracker. It is still not including cases in care homes from national totals, underreporting, also time lags.
So, the number is certainly higher than the number that has been informed.
EU experts fear a second wave of Covid infections
The virus first time emerged in Wuhan, China in December 2019, and it later spread all over the world.
Now the milestone comes after 106,000 new cases were recorded worldwide in the past 24 hours. Then the World Health Organization (WHO) given warning that Covid-19 pandemic is far from over. The highest number of Covid-19 cases in worldwide is in the US with 1,551,853 cases.
EU Covid-19 chief said that Europe should ready for the second wave. Based on the Director of the EU agency said that the prospect of the second wave across Europe is near. Not only a distant theory.
“The question is when and how big, that is the question in my view,” said Dr. Andrea Ammon, director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
Ammon, a former adviser to the German government said “Looking at the characteristics of the virus, looking at what now emerges from the different countries in terms of population immunity – which isn’t all that exciting, between 2% and 14%, that leaves still 85% to 90% of the population susceptible – the virus is around us, circulating much more than January and February … I don’t want to draw a doomsday picture but I think we have to be realistic. That it’s not the time now to completely relax.”
Some European governments start to ease the lockdown. It includes England: Boris Johnsons also make rules to ease the lockdown and school is ready to reopen with some strict rules.
