UK’s pubs and restaurants plan to reopen on June 22

The government is planning to reopen pubs and restaurants on June 22. Two weeks before the timetable in order to save 15,000 pubs that could shut forever.

It is good news that pubs and restaurants in England will unlock the doors two weeks earlier than the plans. After the current schedule, bars, hotels and restaurants will stay close until the beginning of July still maintaining the service for customers outside.

Pubs and restaurants, the plan to reopen

Ministers hope this plan can speed up the timetable, the effort is to preserve up to 3.5 million workers in the hospitality sector avoiding job loss.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak is looking for finding modality to support pubs to reopen using beer gardens, terraces and marquees. But this opening plan should have social distancing rules in place.

But trade association UK Hospitality has informed that the observation of the two-meters rule would not allow to operate profitably for pubs and other businesses.

Then Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister, have requested to business secretary Alok Sharma to the possibility of cutting the UK’s social distancing rule to one meter, according to rumors.

Not only that, Robert Jenrick, housing and local government secretary, is reviewing outdoor areas rules in order to make them suitable for pubs and bars.

Pubs and Restaurant in difficulty

This plan came up after industry managers alerted that pubs could be forced to permanently close if they should follow lockdown measures. Even the numbers are no joke, as many as 15,000 pubs could shut forever.

Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association, manifested her preoccupation: “I am very, very worried about the sector. There are going to be much fewer people inside our pubs and that is part of the reality going forward.” She said that the sector could front a “double hit” if people continue to avoid busy social hubs.
