Covid rates are falling in 28 areas across England according to official Government statistics as 16 other places are being plunged into stricter lockdowns.
Many areas have seen a significant decline in the case rate in the last week. The rate is calculated as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.
In Knowsley , in Merseyside, which has been under the strictest Tier 3 restrictions since the three tier system was announced on Monday, October 12, he case rate has dropped from 664.2 to 553.5.
In Liverpool in Merseyside, the case rate has dropped from 585.1 to 475.5 in the most recent seven-day period.
Nottingham has also seen a significant decrease despite being told on Tuesday it would enter the strictest Tier 3 restrictions. Data shows that the case rate has dropped from 611 to 455.4.
The 28 areas in which Covid rates are falling are Knowsley, Liverpool, Nottingham, West Lancashire, Burnley, Hartlepool, Lancaster Halton, County Durham, York, Barrow in Furness, South Tyneside, Bromsgrove, Craven, Exeter, Windsor and Maidenhead, Elmbridge, Norwich, Rutland, Kettering, Tendring, Uttlesford, Maldon, Mid Suffolk, Huntingdonshire, Braintree, South Norfolk and Mendip .
The 16 places heading into Tier 2 are East Riding of Yorkshire, Kingston-Upon-Hull, North East Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire, Dudley, Staffordshire, Telford and the Wrekin, Amber Valley, Bolsover, Derbyshire Dales, Derby City, South Derbyshire, High Peak; Charnwood, Luton, Oxford City.
Blackburn with Darwen still has the highest rate in England, with 803.6 cases per 100,000 people, up from 576.5 cases per 100,000 the week before.
