Our World in Data is an Oxford University research platform elaborating data, which has shown there is no country in the world with more daily covid deaths than the UK.
According to the research UK has the highest daily covid death rate currently, according to the data reported. The UK has registered 935 daily deaths only last week which is more than 16 people in every million dying with covid every day, no other country in the world has reported higher figures.
Czech Republic had the highest rate since January before UK overtook it on Sunday. The death rate could rise further as death figures registered on weekends and on Mondays are normally lower. The total number of deaths within 28 days of testing positive has risen to 89,860 and further 37,535 cases were reported only in the last 24 hours.
The Government has decided to open 50 mega mass jab centres this month, in order to meet the target of 15 million vaccinated people by mid-February.
Public Health England has confirmed 4,062,501 people were injected with the first dose of the vaccine.
Lockdown restrictions are currently set to ease from March, although Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the process will be very gradual and will also depend on many factors. He confirmed: “It depends on the vaccination programme going well, it depends on there being no new variants that throw our plans out and we have to mitigate against, and it depends on everybody, all of us, remembering that we’re not out of the woods yet.”
