The 2021 edition of the Golden Globes is very special: it was held on two banks, New York and Los Angeles and was conducted by Tina Fey, from the Rainbow Room (on top of the Rockefeller Center) and Amy Pohler, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, the historic location of the Hollywood Foreign Press awards.
This is the first Golden Globes edition of the Covid era and, after a delay of a few weeks due to the pandemic, it took place with the winners connected by their homes in a video call. It was a hybrid event: on the two stages – of New York and Los Angeles – the presenters delivered the prize in a virtual way to the winners connected via call.
Golden Globes : Triumph for British talents
One of the greatest winners of the evening was the drama “The Crown“, which won four awards out of six nominations: a success! Among the winners: Emma Corrin, who plays Princess Diana to which she dedicates the award; Josh O’Connor (Prince Charles in the series), who stated that he felt very lucky to be able to work in such a difficult time; Gillian Anderson (former prime minister Margaret Thatcher) and the creator Peter Morgan.
The excellent result also for “The Queen’s Gambit“, a TV mini-series that had so much success that it boosted the sales of chess and that introduced to the general public the actress Anya Taylor Joy who won as best actress.
Rosamund Pike and Sacha Baron Cohen were also awarded for I Care A Lot and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm respectively and Chadwick Boseman was awarded for his performance as an ambitious trumpet player in Ma Rainey’s “Black Bottom“.
