There is an announcement saying that 4G wifi will be usable across the London Underground by the end of 2024. By the end of next year, the first stations that will be improved are Oxford Circus, Tottenham Court Road, Camden Town, Euston, and Bank.

All passengers can get constant access internet in trains, tunnels, and station. Using that wifi, passengers could do video calls via the internets, get a date on dating apps, or even watch TV because of its speed fast enough.

TfL awaits the 4G to be free

Transport for London awaits the 4G to be free and all UK’s mobile phone providers, such as Vodafone, ThreeUK, O2, and EE, will take part. TfL on Tuesday stated that it had a 20-year agreement with BAI Communications to connect and manage the new wifi networks in all 260 stations. The technology has the possibility to rises to 5G later.

As affirmed in Sadiq Khan’s 2021 mayoral manifesto, the Tube tunnels will also be designed with fibre cables to produce a “full-fibre spine for London”.

Mr Khan said, “It’s already up and running on the eastern half of the Jubilee line and I’m thrilled to state today that I am answering that commitment and full internet access will be usable across the Tube. The key central London stations such as Oxford Circus and Euston set to avail before the end of next year.”

However, the mobile phone operator has not yet confirmed up to offer 4G across the tube even though discussion still happens, TfL said. Sources recommend that the costs of participation at a time passenger number are hardly half of the pre-pandemic levels are potentially limiting.
