A report revealed that Priti Patel will allow the UK to maintain asylum seekers in Australian style offshore processing centres. The Nationality and Borders Bill will be presented next week. It will include a procurement that will permit the Government to build an offshore immigration processing centre for asylum seekers for the first time.
Boris Johnson is reportedly supporting the orders after 315 migrants passed the Channel over the weekend.
It makes a total of 5,676 this year.
The Home Secretary even started talks with Denmark. The reason is last month Denmark announced a similar bill. The nation mentioned that they are planning to send asylum seekers to a centre in Rwanda.
She also analysed Australia’s policy. Australia forbids asylum seekers from travelling by sea. Then they redirect the asylum seekers to offshore immigration accommodation centres in lands such as Papua New Guinea.
Enver Solomon, a chief executive of the Refugee Council charity, stated that offshore processing is an act of cruel and harsh hatred towards defenceless people. They do not fault their own have had to flee war, terror, and oppression.
A Home Office spokesperson explained that the asylum system is crushed and the government should do something so people can avoid dying while passing the Channel.
A spokesperson also published New Plan for Immigration. They explained the plan will welcome people through safe and legal routes, whilst stopping misuse of the system and the criminality connected with it.
“We will not rule out any advantage that could help decrease the illegal migration and reduce the weight on the broken asylum system,” added the spokesperson.
