A leading expert mentioned that throughout summer break school was closing could be the reason Covid-19 cases drop across the UK. Dr Mike Tildesley, a member of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Modelling group (Spi-M) advising ministers by saying he is optimistic about dropping cases. However, only time will show if the third Covid wave is “turning around”.
The expert in infectious diseases from the University of Warwick said that any situations where figures are decreasing are good news. He also mentioned about schools closed for the summer might be the big reason behind it.
Then the other thing to look at before draw certainty in whether we are viewing everything turning round is what’s going on with hospital admissions and deaths.
Dr Tildesley pointed it needs some weeks for case numbers in the population to be shown in hospital admissions.
The time interval between infections and hospital admissions means that admissions are expected to proceed to rise in the coming days despite of the number of cases.
He added, “I think if they do then at that point we can be much more certain that we’re starting to see, probably, this wave turning round.”
