Aldi is trialling a supermarket where customers can walk by after shopping. Customers can just pick up their needs at the store then be charged as they leave the supermarket. The trial store is in a secret London location.

How Aldi’s works

Customers can buy anything at Aldi as long as customers install an app on the phone. Then register on the app when they come to the Aldi store. Customers can walk in and go shopping normally. Finish, they can leave the store. When customers walk out of the shop, they are charged automatically. The receipt will send by email.

Giles Hurley, Aldi UK and Ireland chief executive stated that the company always studying to redefined what it means to be a discount retailer. “The technology included in this test will give us a treasure of learnings,” added him.

Staff at Aldi will same with other supermarket

The company is also delighted to test this concept. A statement from Aldi also mentioned that even though the customers don’t need to check out, the number of staff will remain the same with its similarly-sized supermarket.

Before Aldi, Amazon has done the trial no-checkout payments. The concept was launched for the first time in the US in 2018.
