Festive celebrations in Inverurie: A guide to Christmas events 2023
As the holiday season approaches, the charming town of Inverurie is preparing to welcome residents and visitors alike with a series of festive events designed to spread joy and cheer. Organized by We Are Inverurie, the Business Improvement District (BID) group, these events promise to create a magical atmosphere throughout the Garioch area.
The festivities will commence on November 17 at the Thainstone Exchange, where a delightful Christmas fayre will take place from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Attendees can expect a vibrant mix of Christmas crafts, delicious food, and live entertainment, making it a perfect outing for families and friends. This event sets the tone for the season, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the holiday spirit.
One of the highlights of the festive calendar is the much-anticipated Christmas lights switch-on event, officially known as “The BIG Switch On.” Scheduled for December 1, this celebration will take place on Market Street from 2 PM to 6 PM.
The event will feature a parade at 3:30 PM and a spectacular fireworks display at 5 PM, drawing thousands of attendees to enjoy a magical day filled with festive cheer.
Santa Claus will be making special appearances in Inverurie, flying in from the North Pole on three occasions before Christmas. Families can visit Santa’s grotto on December 7 from 2 PM to 5 PM and again on December 14 from 3 PM to 5:30 PM. This enchanting experience allows children to meet Santa in a beautifully decorated setting, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Additionally, a Christmas party night is scheduled for December 7, starting at 6:30 PM at the Garioch Indoor Bowling Centre. This festive gathering is touted as the ideal way to kick off the holiday season, offering an evening of fun and celebration.
On December 13, the popular “Tractor Fun Run” will return, running from 4 PM to 8:30 PM at the Garioch Heritage Centre. This unique event promises excitement for all ages, featuring fire engines and a mini edition for children under 10. The following day, December 14, will see the renowned Cairngorm Reindeer Herd parade through the town, pulling Santa’s sleigh from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, transforming Inverurie into a winter wonderland.
For those looking to stay active during the festive season, the Santa Run on December 15 offers a fun way to burn off holiday treats. The 5km run for ages 11 and over will take place at Wyness Hall, while a 2km kids’ version will be held at the Inverurie Community Campus.
