Fraserburgh FC extends contracts for key players Willie West, Paul Young, and Kieran Simpson

Fraserburgh FC has made significant strides in securing the future of its squad by extending the contracts of three pivotal players: Willie West, Paul Young, and Kieran Simpson.

This decision has been met with enthusiasm from manager Mark Cowie, who believes that these players have much more to contribute to the club’s ambitions.

Willie West: A Legacy in the Making

Willie West, the club’s captain and most decorated player, has signed a new contract that will keep him at Bellslea until the summer of 2026.

Since his debut in November 2003, West has played a crucial role in Fraserburgh’s success, helping the team clinch numerous titles, including the Breedon Highland League and multiple Aberdeenshire Cups. At 36, he is not just a veteran but also a player in remarkable shape, rarely sidelined by injuries. Currently, he is chasing the club record for appearances, with 698 games under his belt and only 23 away from surpassing Billy Gordon’s record of 721. Cowie expressed his delight at West’s commitment, stating, “If he keeps performing as he has been, then there’s every chance he’ll get another contract.”

Paul Young: A Testament to Dedication

Vice-captain Paul Young has also secured a long-term deal, extending his stay until 2028. Joining Fraserburgh from Turriff United in 2017, Young has been instrumental in the club’s achievements, including winning the Highland League and several Shire Cups. Cowie highlighted Young’s energy and work ethic, noting that his upcoming testimonial in the 2027-28 season would be a well-deserved recognition of his contributions. Cowie humorously suggested that Aston Villa might consider sending a team for the testimonial, given Young’s family connection to the club.

Kieran Simpson: The Future of Fraserburgh FC

At just 23 years old, Kieran Simpson represents the future of Fraserburgh FC. His new contract also runs until 2028, and Cowie sees him as a potential future captain. Since making his debut in February 2018, Simpson has been part of the team’s successes alongside Young. Cowie praised Simpson’s leadership qualities and his performance on the field, stating, “I think with his performances he’s one of the top centre-halves in the league.” As Simpson continues to develop, he is expected to play a significant role in the club’s future endeavors.

Overall, the contract extensions for West, Young, and Simpson signify Fraserburgh FC’s commitment to building a strong and competitive team. With these key players secured, the club is poised for continued success in the coming years.
