Transforming the former post office in Burghead

The former post office in Burghead, which closed its doors last year, is set to undergo a significant transformation. Building owner Ronald Stewart has unveiled plans to convert the property on Grant Street into a chip shop and café.

The proposed layout includes a takeaway entrance with dedicated waiting and serving areas, alongside a café entrance featuring a counter and seating for approximately ten patrons. The anticipated opening hours are designed to cater to local demand, with the establishment operating from 4 PM to 8 PM on weekdays and extending to 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. This initiative not only aims to provide a new dining option for residents but also to revitalize a previously underutilized space.

Expansion of Seafield Arms Hotel

In Cullen, the Seafield Arms Hotel is poised for expansion, reflecting its growing popularity among visitors. The hotel’s Bar 19, an informal bistro, has become a favorite, prompting owner Charles Milne to seek an increase in seating capacity to accommodate the surge in clientele. Planning approval has been granted for the extension, which will enhance the bar’s capacity to 52 seats. The project, estimated to cost around £41,526, is expected to commence shortly, further solidifying the hotel’s status as a key player in the local hospitality scene. The Seafield Arms Hotel, a historic establishment built in 1822, has undergone significant investment and transformation since its acquisition by Milne in 2014.

New developments at Coleburn Distillery

Coleburn Distillery is making strides towards realizing its ambitious vision of establishing a whisky resort. Following the approval of plans to convert an unused piggery into a bistro, the distillery is now seeking to enhance its facilities with a new car park to support the bistro’s operations. The proposed car park will feature approximately 59 spaces, accompanied by a comprehensive landscape maintenance plan that includes tree and shrub planting. This development is part of a broader strategy to create a unique hospitality experience centered around whisky tourism in the region.

Mixed-use redevelopment in Elgin

In Elgin, significant changes are on the horizon with the planned demolition of several buildings to pave the way for a new mixed-use redevelopment on South Street. The project, supported by the Moray Growth Deal and the £18.3 million Levelling Up Fund, aims to create a vibrant hub featuring retail units, residential flats, and a business center. The demolition of the iconic Jailhouse nightclub and other structures is set to commence soon, marking a pivotal moment in the area’s transformation. This redevelopment is expected to enhance the urban landscape and provide much-needed housing and commercial spaces in Elgin.

Future of the former Bank of Scotland branch

After nearly eight years of vacancy, the former Bank of Scotland branch in Fochabers is finally set to be repurposed. Plans have been approved to convert the C-listed building into a residential space, incorporating a lounge, gym, and several bedrooms. This project, valued at £142,000, signifies a commitment to preserving the architectural heritage of the area while providing modern living solutions. The integration of historical buildings into contemporary living spaces reflects a growing trend in urban development, balancing preservation with innovation.
