Weather predictions for March 3 and 4

Parts of the United Kingdom are preparing for severe snow and icy conditions as new weather models indicate challenging weather ahead. Predictions for March 3 and 4 suggest that vast areas could experience a whiteout, with snowfall accompanied by rain, gusty winds, and a significant drop in temperatures.

Weather experts from WXCharts have forecasted that snow will begin blanketing Scotland and northern England on the night of March 3, with up to 2cm expected in the Highlands before it moves southward throughout the night.

Impact on temperatures and regions

By Tuesday morning, many regions across the UK, from north-western Scotland down to the Essex coast, may wake up to a purple-hued weather map, indicating snow depths reaching 4cm in areas such as Wales and the West Midlands. Thermometers are predicted to plunge below freezing across much of the nation early on March 4, with Scotland experiencing temperatures as low as -3°C. Most of England is expected to hover around 0°C, with slightly milder readings of 2°C in the southern regions.

Counties affected by the snowstorm

As many as 27 counties in the UK could find themselves engulfed by this snowstorm, marking yet another bout in a series of cold snaps. Recently, some regions experienced snow just last weekend. The Met Office’s extended outlook from February 24 to March 5 warns of “uncertain” weather patterns, forecasting “cold and showery” spells accompanied by potential snowfall, particularly in the northern parts of the country. Looking beyond March 5, there could be an onset of heavier rainfall and blustery conditions due to Atlantic fronts, although temperatures may remain above average for this time of year.

Current weather outlook

The Met Office has provided a forecast for the next five days, indicating that while the majority of the country can expect dry, bright weather, some rain is anticipated in the east. Coastal gales may occur in the north, and the UK will experience cloudy but increasingly mild conditions, with cloud cover and wind intensifying in the north and west. Stormy showers are predicted to shift eastwards across the nation, interspersed with some sunny intervals. Despite mild temperatures, it may feel cooler due to the windy conditions.

Unsettled weather ahead

Unsettled weather is forecasted across the UK, with wind and rain particularly expected in the north and west. Temperatures are set to continue rising, especially in the southwest. As the weather continues to evolve, residents are advised to stay informed and prepared for the potential impacts of this severe weather system.
