Mayor of Odesa Gennadiy Trukhanov: «Odesa – Ukrainian ticket to the Eurasian Market»

Located on the Black Sea coast, Odesa, thanks to its geopolitical location and developed infrastructure, is becoming the largest logistics hub in Ukraine, especially in the context of the Russian war against Ukraine and the occupation of Ukrainian port cities in the Sea of Azov.

Odesa has a unique geographical position, which allows it to be an important hub for trade routes linking Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The Black Sea offers opportunities for maritime transport, making Odesa a key port for the import and export of goods. Following the Russian aggression of 2022, Ukraine is actively working to restore and modernize its transport routes, and Odesa occupies a central place in this process. In 2024, Ukraine returned to the level of port transportation that existed before 2022, which indicates a gradual restoration and development of infrastructure.

The ports of Greater Odesa, which include next: cities Odesa, Chornomorsk and Yuzhny, remain the main seaports of Ukraine. The country is actively investing in the development of port infrastructure, realizing that reliable ports are important for economic growth and increased competitiveness in the international arena.

The international “Black Sea Security Forum” was held in Odesa, where former French President Francois Hollande, former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, US Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker, and British Army officer Bridget Brynk spoke. During the forum, Odesa’s Mayor Gennady Trukhanov noted that Odesa had made its choice and local citizens were fighting for the Ukrainian flag. The City aspires to become the largest logistics center of the Black Sea basin. Odessa’s infrastructure and geopolitical location perfectly meet these criteria and Odesa is a Ukrainian ticket to the Eurasian market.

Despite the fact that Odesa has long been a target of “dark” PR campaigns by various political circles, including the opening of criminal cases against the city’s mayor Gennady Trukhanov, each of which fell apart in court due to lack of evidence, the southern capital of Ukraine remains one of the locomotives of the Ukrainian economy.

Considering the fact that large economic forums that are held even during the war, such as the “Black Sea Security Forum” and the “Odesa Revival Economic Forum”, confirm that Odesa is a geopolitical center that unites the interests of Europe and Asia in the Black Sea region.
