In the epicenter of the Covid-19 outbreak, Wuhan in China the death toll revised up by 1,290 becomes 3,869. Wuhan also revised up confirmed cases by 325. It comes after US President Donald Trump directly accused China of lying about its death toll, and is launching an investigation as to whether the virus started in a Wuhan lab.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Beijing “needs to come clean” on what they know, with the source of the killer virus still a mystery. General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that US intelligence indicates that the Covid-19 likely occurred naturally, and not in a lab.
However, there are some reports that the virus originated in a Wuhan laboratory, but not as a bioweapon.
Instead, the American news network said it was part of China’s effort to demonstrate that its efforts to identify and combat viruses are equal to or greater than the capabilities of the US. This report and others have suggested the Wuhan lab where virology experiments take place is the origin.
American officials claimed a White House report concluded China’s official figures were fake, with locals suggesting at the time the death toll in Wuhan was closer to 42,000. President Trump again referred to the issue on Wednesday during a White House briefing when asked why the US has 24 percent of the world’s virus deaths but only four percent of the overall population.
Trump said, “Do you think you’re getting honest numbers from some of those countries? Do you really believe those numbers from this vast country called China? And that they have a certain number of cases and a certain number of deaths. Does anyone really believe that?”. He also added that their reporting is really good and reporting every death. They have more cases because they do more reporting.
