Massive Explosion Oil Refinery
Indonesia : an Indonesian state oil company exposed the Balongan oil refinery in West Java, which was forced to close as firefighters struggled to control the flames. A powerful explosion injured at least five people and hundreds were evacuated.
Pertamina said about 950 nearby residents had been evacuated. They also said this with images on social media showing huge flames engulfing the 125,000 barrel-a-day facility.
On top of that, there was also a huge explosion. The incident started with a blazing fire just after midnight, as reported by local media, while Pertamina said it occurred during bad weather.
Police spokesman Erdi Chaniago said the West Java police would help investigate the cause of the fire.
It was the control of the oil flow that was put in place to prevent any spread. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but there were heavy rain and lightning during the incidents.
Pertamina also revealed that the fire was concentrated in the refinery’s storage units and that there was no impact on the processing plant. Footage of the fire showed that the fire was still burning and a huge plume of black smoke was rising from the site. Police spokesman Erdi Chaniago said West Java police would help investigate the cause of the fire. “We are securing the site for now because the fire is still going on. We cannot examine the scene yet, cooling has to be done by Pertamina first,” he said. A nearby resident said she was woken up by the acrid smell of oil fumes and saw lightning in the sky. It was so strong that our noses hurt and the sky suddenly turned orange.
