India covid 300 000 infections

The covid-19 epidemic in India is still way out of control and in the last 24 hours over 300,000 new infections have been reported by the Indian government. According to the Ministry of Health, there have been 329,942 new cases and 3,876 deaths.

An important increase especially if you think that these are data addressed to a single day and that lead to a total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic in India to 22,992,517 and deaths to 249,992.

India Ganges River bodies

A terrible discovery has been made in India in the district of Buxar where dozens and dozens of bodies, many of them in a state of advanced decomposition, have been found along the river Ganges.

It is not clear why they were thrown into the river. They may have been abandoned because the crematorium ovens had collapsed due to the large number of deaths, or because their families could not afford firewood for the funeral pyres.

India’s Ganges River bodies – the discovery

Dozens of corpses emerged along the Ganges River. This is the scene that many Indians living in the Buxar district have been forced to witness. Many bodies were found in an obvious state of decomposition, while others were partially burnt.

Many citizens have expressed their fears to the AFP news agency, saying that this is because the incinerators have collapsed. “It is clear that the bodies arrived floating in the river from the neighbouring state,” local authorities said.

India Ganges river bodies – national lockdown demanded

Meanwhile, US immunologist Fauci is reported to have spoken in an interview with CNN about how the situation in India is becoming increasingly critical, pointing out that the only solution, at least for the moment, would be to institute a nationwide lockdown.

“I have advised them in the past that it is really necessary to do this. You have to shut down. I think many of the Indian states have already done that, but you need to break the chain of transmission. And one of the ways to do that is to shut down.” However, he added: “I don’t think it is necessary to shut down for six months. You just need to break the chain of transmission. And one can do that by extending the lockdown as far as possible for two, three weeks, four weeks. And then, as soon as the cases start to decrease and you vaccinate more people, then you can anticipate the path of the epidemic.
